If the Greek democracy is worth imitating, they had plenty of gods to choose from, including the beautiful Athena and the mischievous Bacchus. Bacchanal still means WILD PARTY.

And what do we have? A stern God who's like a king --the king of kings-- running the Universe the way he pleases, in a rather clumsy way, I may add. The priests and nuns are having fun, their own dark twisted way, and we are bored.

If Bacchus was in charge, he would watch over people having fun under the Sun and the Moon. And we wouldn't be driving a car everywhere since we need to enjoy our wine. Don't drink and drive. Don't make Jesus your copilot. Pay attention. There may be a cyclist out there.

A problem the fundy Moslems are attempting
to correct. They'll get rid of 'democracy' and
insert a grand caliph instead.
Are we going from bad to worse?
That's what generally happens. Well, one flavor
of 'bad' to another anyhow - kinda subjective as
to which 'bad'-of-the-week is "worse" ..........
Humans have been writing down the events of
the day for a LONG time now ... over 5000 years,
even longer in some of the earliest-organized
societies in the Indus valley. I suspect even more
lies under the shallow waters that rose at the end
of the last ice-age ... 12,000, maybe 25,000 years
worth.
However the STORY is always the same .... things
just SUCK. Vile kings, emperors, dictators and
fanatics. Poverty and dispair. Totalitarianism and war.
Lies, deceits and back-stabbing. Blood flowing down
the streets. This is our "normal". The "good" bits are
few and far between, lost in all the rest.
The story is so consistent over time and across
geographical and cultural lines that it's clear this
"normal" is one of those "human nature" things,
something about *us*, how we think, what we
need or imagine we need. If we terraform Mars
and move ten million people to that planet, it
won't be long before the story picks up THERE
as well.
Kinda depressing.
On the plus side, we keep on trying to de-suck things,
we're generally optimistic about tomorrow, we can
generally take a licking and keep on ticking. So, short
of a massive thermonuke war or engineered plague,
humanity WILL survive - to complain about the
continuing suckitude, at least until the 'leaders' start
handing out 'Soma' so nobody gives a shit anymore.
I think everything went wrong 10,000 years ago with the transition from hunter gathering to sedentary life. It was a necessary transition, but many things went wrong, not least the appearance on stage of "God," the one and only, the one omnipotent god that ended the freedom for man. Funny, this same transition occurred in America as recent as 200 years ago. The "spirits" worked great for hunter gatherers, they provided the rain and good hunting. All they had to do is get up in the morning and go for it.

The new omnipotent god meant that they must submit to slavery and boredom. Many Indians would rather die. So here we are, in this technologically advanced society, facing OVERPOPULATION & EXTINCTION, bored to death, waiting for Jesus to come...

It could be better, much better, but our leaders must provide the leadership. Nobody dares say, in this so called "democratic society," that we must practice population control. It wouldn't be popular and the Pope will say no. We must keep growing until the end of times. It could happen very soon at this pace.

The Great Spirit of the Indians must be saying, "I told you so." The elderly among the Indians were synonymous with wisdom, while they are now synonyms with dumbness, cleverly manipulated by our politicians to vote one way or another. At best they won't vote.

This is similar to the dumbing down of many domestic animals, such as the pig and the sheep. I don't know about the sheep, but in the right environment, pigs go back to being wild boars.

A revolution in thinking must occur and indeed we can make it happen. The concepts of "god" and "democracy" must be challenged and reviewed. We need to ROAM FREE once again, not unlike our ancestors in the African savannahs. We are a bipedal species, not sheep.
