Good denture adhesive?

I had my lower teeth removed a week ago. I'm having problems with new
dentures. Seem to be coming loose when I try to chew with them.

Dentist gave me Equate adhesive cream - seems to be the same as Fixodent.
Dentures come loose as soon as I try to chew. Otherwise they seem to fit
and dental asst. has adjusted them several times.

I have some old Fixodent Extra Hold Powder. This worked on my upper denture
before I got used to it and quit using adhesive. I plan to try that before
lunch today. Any other, perhaps better, suggestions? I really need to start
eating solid food again!

TIA

I've found that you should concentrate on biting up with your lower dentures
instead of down with the uppers. I've had mine for about 40 years and have
never had a problem even though they are fairly loose. I think it was a
dentist who originally gave me that hint.
